ARK, which stands for Acts of Random Kindness, is a project of Change Our World for Good, an organization that is trying to change the world through kindness. The El Paso Community Foundation is partnering with schools to bring the ARK project to El Paso. Each student will receive a small yellow “ARK” money bank to fill with change over a period of time. Once the ARK is full, the students will pick an organization whom they feel will benefit from their kindness and give it to them. Although this may not make a major financial impact on the beneficiaries, the ARK program is meant to introduce the idea of philanthropy at a young age. Your school will not be responsible for collecting any money.
The El Paso Community Foundation will provide ARKs for all students and help initiate the secondary part of the ARK School Program. We will assist with a kick off assembly to explain to the students the purpose and goal of the project. Then, depending on the student age group, there are several follow up activities that can be implemented. A “Giving Tree” can be created where students can display the different organizations and people they have given to (in partnership with the school’s art teacher) or an essay project with the topic such as “What it felt like to give” are just a few examples on how to expand this project to instill a deeper meaning of giving.
